ELIC had the pleasure of hosting an eminent group of foreign publishers, UK festival directors, delegations of the London Book Fair and the British Council during the HeadRead literary festival in Tallinn, end of May 2017.

The aim of this visit was to bring together the main stakeholders of the Estonian literary scene and the key people of the London Book Fair Baltic Market Focus Year 2018.

The delegations of the LBF and BC met with the Minister of Culture, Chairman of the Estonian Writers’ Union, Director of the HeadRead Literary Festival, organizing committees of the Latvian and Lithuanian cultural programme at LBF 2018. They visited the Tänapäev Publishing House, Estonian Childrens’ Literature Centre, Tammsaare Museum, the award-winning Rahva Raamat bookstore; had a chance to see off the Childrens’ Republic event at the Presidential Palace and enjoy the hospitality of the British and Finnish ambassadors.

The UK literary festival directors and publishers from USA, UK, Italy, Netherlands and Denmark met with a number of acclaimed Estonian writers in person as well as had a chance to listen to Estonian authors on stage. They spent an informative day at the Käsmu Captains’ Village, at the Tammsaare House and ELIC office.

The visit was facilitated by Estonia100, Ministry of Culture and the Estonian Cultural Endowment.
